The carefully crafted message was designed not to exceed the maximum 140 characters. She planned to post it simultaneously to all of her social networking sites so she would know exactly what time everyone could see it. That way she would know how long it took them to respond. She opened the dashboard on her computer, copied the text and pasted it into the window. One last check:
Life is just too much for me so I have decided to take an overdose of pills and white wine and watch the sunset for the last time. Goodbye
Then she hit send.
And the words went unread by all the 263 people who called themselves her friends.

I have a theory that the people who announce that they're going to kill themselves actually have no intention of it - they're just attention seeking. (Often with good cause....)
The ones that actually intend to die just get on with it.
It's based on a very small number of actual cases (thank goodness!) but has some grounds in reality.

I concur with your theory and with the lack of car from so-caled friends. On the other hand, some sites can be tremendously supportive ... I'm hugely impressed with the Six Sentences social site - a groups of us will be meeting up again next month, in North Carolina. (That's not intended as a boast - more an illustration!)
Nice title but a bit too close to the truth. At a conference on student welfare once, the speaker asked the audience of over 200 people to put up their hands if they knew someone who had either committed or attempted suicide. I was shocked to find that most people put up their hands, including myself.
