On the subject of names again

We went for a walk over the Easter break to enjoy the sunshine and see some of our local area. The route took us through a church yard a couple of villages down the way where I took the chance to photograph some of the gravestones.

Names are a real problem for me. I can make them up but they never seem real enough somehow, so I gather them wherever I can.

I have also found gravestones inspirational for stories too, especially when combined with a little more information from censuses or parish registers. Names themselves have such power, and the regionality of them is also something to bear in mind.

After speding 25 years researching my roots I fell in love with graveyards as I hunted down my family members.

The gravestones have some wonderful tales to tell though the outcome is the same for all.

There are some beautiful names out there .. especially when we learn their meaning .. or their history .. I've got a post tucked away somewhere on names! and one came from a local gravestone ..
